I recently spoke in Hartford, Connecticut at the Kiwanis Club. It was an excellent day of speaking and the members of this particular group were fantastic.
Stop Waiting
One of the core delusions of life is that tomorrow is better than today. It’s SO tempting to think this and it’s a trap that all of us fall into at one point or another. But what I talked about during my motivational speech in Hartford, Connecticut is that you really can’t put things off to tomorrow because, in reality, there is no tomorrow.
Yes, there obviously is going to be another day, but what I’m saying here is that in a very practical sense, all you ever have is the present moment.
If you ever find yourself waiting, consider the following quote, which I genuinely consider to be one of the greatest quotes I’ve ever come across in my life:
It is not uncommon for people to spend their whole life waiting to start living. – Eckhart Tolle
If that quote doesn’t motivate you, I don’t know what will! This quote works in your favor, because what Tolle is saying (at least my interpretation of it) is that it’s never too late to activate the power of the present moment and start living now. Forget the past, stop worrying about the future, and instead focus on the beauty of the present.
To be clear: I’m NOT saying to burn yourself out and suddenly try to do everything at once. I’m simply suggesting to focus on the most important activities in the present moment and move forward from there. Make incremental progress, even if it means working on your goal, dream, task, or project for ten to fifteen minutes each day in-between everything else you have going on.
What I Want to Leave You With
Doing a motivational speech in Hartford, Connecticut was a great experience – I not only made great connections, but I also gave out copies of my first book Traveling Triumphs. I want to leave you with two key kernels of advice:
- Put yourself out there and connect with other people. Attend networking events, hand out your business card to people, say hello to strangers, and take risks – it pays off!
- Stop waiting. Stop waiting to be you. Stop waiting to share your message. Stop waiting to give your gift to the world. Activate the power of now (as Eckhart Tolle beautifully teaches us) and realize that the present moment is truly all that you have.
