Blue Ocean Strategy
Three words:
Blue ocean strategy.
By “blue ocean strategy”, I’m referring to a business term and strategy that is often associated with finding areas of low cost and low competition that lead to new, open market space.
This is one of the reasons why I’m so excited to continue exploring business opportunities in Europe, where I’ve lived for the past five years.
Don’t get me wrong, I had lots of opportunities in the New York area and I did well there. With that said, I always looked at Europe as a place that had so much potential.
This feeling was not only an intuitive business sense but also on an individual level. From 2009 through 2010 I had a spectacular study abroad experience traveling Europe, and subsequent trips to Europe from 2011 through 2017 were always magical (I moved to Europe in late 2017). I’ve always felt a connection to the European continent.
Moving somewhere new is never easy, so when I left New York and started over in Europe, I took a couple of steps back. And as I networked and built my business, I needed to be patient. But it was two steps back to take seven steps forward, as I now have so many business opportunities across Europe – it’s incredible. Making an impact and an income at the same time.
The point I’m making here, within the context of the blue ocean strategy, is to not limit yourself. I see a lot of people limit their opportunities to their given city, state, province, or even country.
The truth is, the whole world is your market. If things aren’t necessarily “clicking into place” in your current country, why not explore opportunities in another country?
I put this into practice and it has been paying off, as I’m traveling all over Europe giving professional speeches and taking advantage of other kinds of consulting opportunities. By meeting the needs of the European market while being my unique self, I’ve been able to stand out. At the same time, I’m still connected to the American market and I continue to travel there for business.
Do some research on other countries and continents. Ask yourself, “What are the needs of this market and how can I meet those needs?”
And don’t be afraid to just DO IT! Book that plane ticket, pack your bags, and embark on the adventure of a lifetime.
I’m looking forward to seeing you crush it, tapping into the blue ocean strategy.
I will see you, my friend, at The Mountaintop!
