Featured on Mindalia TV
I recently had the honor and pleasure of being featured on Mindalia TV, based in Texas. Their mission is to share information that can help raise the level of consciousness around the world. Here’s their YouTube channel.
My friend Dan Blanchard recently became one of the co-hosts of the show, next to Angel Ribo and Mirna Pérez González. I first met Dan at the Hartford Springfield Speakers Network group, and we’ve been having epic coffee sessions ever since. Dan is an educator and I went into the high school he teaches at to speak to some of his students.
Dan, Angel, and Mirna are all making an incredible difference in the world and we had a fantastic discussion about authentic leadership. Here’s the tip of the iceberg of what we touched on during our time together:
- After some kind words from Dan about me, he talked about how authentic leadership is about being yourself.
- I mentioned how I first got into authentic leadership – I saw there was a huge gap between what people say and what they do, and wanted to help bridge the gap between what people preach and what people actually value. I also emphasized that it’s important to be open about the challenges you’ve faced.
- Dan went into an inspiring example as far as living his values. He kept someone’s best interests at heart by helping someone keep their job, when he didn’t have to and even when he didn’t even know the person. This is authentic leadership at its finest. He also talked about how he became a leader through valuing hard work.
- I went into how I built a network from scratch by being fearless and taking positive, life-affirming risks. It’s important to show interest in others, as Dale Carnegie taught.
- Dan said a very powerful statement: It’s all about adding value. He was talking about connecting with influential people by adding value to them.
- I was vulnerable by going into how I can relate to students who are in the dumps and feel like they can’t go on. At age 17, I hit rock bottom. Sharing this story helps people, especially students, who are struggling.
- Angel mentioned how he’s living his purpose by helping others, often doing so at no cost to others. Angel, like Dan, is an authentic leader.
- Dan mentioned how someone he knew had a panic attack because he was trying to be too manly, choosing not to tell anyone about his struggles. This guy Dan knew wasn’t authentic because he kept everything to himself instead of seeking the help he needed.
- I mentioned how I was bullied and physically assaulted by one of my college baseball teammates. I share this with the purpose of helping others.
- Angel wrapped up our discussion by saying how there are many kids in desperate situations. It’s very satisfying for Angel when kids tell him how Angel positively impacted their lives. Angel emphasized that the responsibility we have as influencers is to be who we really are.
